Waltham Butternut Squash, a cool season crop, is the ideal late planting and harvest for the autumn and winter months, embodying the season with its velvety, bright orange flesh that is delicious in both sweet and savory holiday dishes. Cucurbita Maxima / Waltham Butternut Squash thrives in loose, rich, slightly acidic soil, requiring daily watering and mulch, if possible, to keep the shallow roots moist but well-drained. Fast-maturing, this variety does need warmth and often a late application of fertilizer to fully develop its distinctive bell-like shape.

When ready to harvest, detach the squash stem from the vines using a knife or shears. Sow 1-2 seeds each in small hills as the summer transitions to fall. Butternut Squash vines prefer this planting method.

Each 5 Gram packet from The Old Farmer's Almanac contains approximately 50 premium, open-pollinated, non-GMO, heirloom vegetable seeds. These seeds are freshly packed for the current growing season and will provide high germination rates for the next year as well.

The premium packaging of these seed packets makes them ideal for gifts, storage, or immediate use. Each packet displays the flower, vegetable, plant, or herb variety on the front, with instructions and plant facts clearly printed on the back.

Enjoy Butternut Squash in a variety of ways. Harvest before the first frost to cure and store for use throughout the winter months. Alternatively, harvest after the first frost for a sweeter squash to eat right away.
